Mailed tax preparation information on February 1, 2017 in order to have taxes prepared early. Apparently, Steeley Tax & Business Center did not pay the post office necessary expenses to keep their account active. On March 3, 2017, received e-mail message from Lisa stating I should contact them. Upon calling back learned information mailed on February 1st was never received. Given, we also kept electronic copies of documents, uploaded those online for tax preparation. Several weeks later, received message stating returns were complete. Despite simple tax returns consisting of Form 1040, Schedule A, Form 8283 (Noncash Charitable Deductions) and Form 8879 (IRS e-file Signature Authorization) for Federal taxes and Form 502, Form 502B (Dependent Information) and Form EL101 (Electronic Filing) for state taxes was charged $500 with circumstances nearly the same as previous year. While I felt it was somewhat high, confirmed with several persons who utilized other tax preparers, the fees were very inflated. A couple weeks later on March 28, received e-mail notification from Lisa stating package sent to them on February 1st arrived at Steeley Tax & Business Center. On the same day, politely asked for them to return to me so it can verify it was still originally sealed with all contents still contained therein. As the business resides approximately four miles from our home and associated post office about half that distance, called to inquire several days later when it still was not received. Finally, I called on Friday, April 7 stating it still had not arrived and wanted them to address the matter if it were still not received by the following Monday, April 10. During the dialog, Lisa became belligerent and stated there was nothing they would do to address the issue. When I requested Tom Steeley contact me to discuss her lack of customer service, her response was “Tom would not be as nice as me.” My wife and I would definitely not recommend Steeley Tax & Business Center to anyone regarding any business services including tax preparation. To summarize our experience: unprofessional customer service, expensive preparation fees with no concern regarding lost tax return information!
